We warmly welcome your pet dogs to 20A Kirkibost

We believe holidays are for the whole family, and that includes your beloved dog. At 20A Kirkibost, we’re proud to be a truly dog-friendly holiday cottage, offering a comfortable and safe base for you and your canine companion to explore the stunning Lewis landscape.

We welcome up to two well-behaved dogs to join you on your island adventure. If your pack is a little bigger, please get in touch with us before booking to discuss your needs. We love to accommodate where we can!

Bringing your dog to 20A Kirkibost.

We would love you to bring your dog(s) with you on holiday. To help your dog settle in and feel secure, we kindly ask that they aren’t left unattended in the cottage. If you need a helping hand, we can connect you with a trusted local dog sitter and walker who can give your pup some love and attention while you’re out and about. We can also provide a small dog crate for your use on request, to help your dog feel right at home.

Within the house we respectfully request that no dogs are allowed in the bedrooms. We provide dog towels and dog blankets and so long as these are used, your dogs are welcome to join you on the sofa.

We appreciate it if you could clean up after your dog, both in the garden and on your walks.

Price: £30 per dog for the duration of your stay. This small fee helps us cover the extra cleaning required to keep the cottage sparkling for all our guests.

Fully enclosed garden

We are delighted to be able to advise that  our garden is now fully enclosed and secure, so your dog can have a good run around in a safe space.  We advise to keep the gate closed at all times when you are visiting with your pet(s).

However, as we are in a rural area with livestock in neighbouring crofts, please never leave your dog unattended in the garden. When you’re out and about exploring the village and surrounding areas, please keep your dog on a lead to protect our local wildlife and livestock.

There are many amazing beaches on Lewis and Harris where your dog can have hours of fun and total freedom.

Exploring Lewis and Harris with your dog

Lewis and Harris is a paradise for dogs and their owners, offering countless opportunities for walks, runs, and exploring. Here are a few suggestions to get you and your four-legged friend started:

Beach Bliss: Prepare for some of the UK’s most spectacular coastal walks! One of the island’s most beautiful beaches, Bosta Beach on Great Bernera, is just a 10-minute drive from your cottage. The islands are famous for their stunning stretches of sand, many of which are dog-friendly all year round. We recommend the vast white sands of Luskentyre and Seilebost on Harris for an unforgettable run. On Lewis, Dalmore Beach offers a great spot for a doggy paddle, while the sheltered Coll Sands is ideal for a gentle morning walk.

Wander the Woodlands: For a change of scenery, explore the peaceful paths of the Lews Castle Grounds in Stornoway. These extensive grounds offer a network of walking and cycling trails through beautiful woodlands and along the harbour.

Cultural Canine Adventures: Visit the historic Callanish Stones with your dog on a lead. While you can’t go right up to the stones, you can walk the surrounding paths and take in the magnificent atmosphere. The circular walk around Great Bernera also offers a chance to visit the Bronze Age dwelling at Bosta Beach.

Dog-Friendly Dining: After a long walk, you might be ready for a refreshment. Look out for local cafés and pubs that welcome dogs, often with outdoor seating areas. We recommend checking with individual establishments as policies can vary.

Please remember: Always keep your dog on a lead when near livestock, particularly on crofted land, and be mindful of local wildlife and nesting birds. Enjoy your Hebridean adventure!
